Sunday morning, Carlos pointed me in the right direction for the best beach to find sea glass. So I spent an hour on this quaint little beach collecting sea glass and enjoying the sounds of crashing waves. I had the whole beach to myself, the waves crashed into me and I watched sail boats cruise around out in the sea. I could do this every day!
Speaking of sailboats cruising on the sea, that’s what we did today!!! Dana and I scooped up her friend Mel & her cousin and went on this super FAB sailboat for the afternoon.
Before getting to the harbor, we made a stop at Sam’s Club for some essentials—a case of Modelo, some wraps, veggie chips & a new beach towel—mixed with some food sampling throughout the aisles. Then we ventured to the ABC store to get some floatation devices, hopefully in the shape of a turtle or a rhino:)
We made our way to the boat and were greeted by Stan & Girard (our captains) and their topless friend Sole. In the words of Mel’s cousin Logan, “I’m not cultured enough for this.” **Quote of the day!!
This topless friend also decided to show us her stripping skills throughout our sailing adventure. Quite entertaining, minus the fact that she had a mullet and her eyebrows were painted on and her boob job was horrible…
Before setting sail, Stan gave us the low down on what to do & what not to do on the boat….
#1 – If you smoke, don’t smoke in the cabin
#2 – If you’re going to get sick, don’t go into the cabin
#3 – Puke off the back of the boat
#4 – Hold onto the ropes when walking on the boat (this rule was one you could not escape because if you didn’t hold on you will fall in the water and get eaten by sharks, true story)
#5 – Drink & have fun! …. which is just what we did!!
We cruised for a few hours out to sea where we saw another whale!!!! We were so close and saw the whole body of the whale come out of the water & spout out of its blowhole! Pretty stellar!! Of course it all happened too quickly for me to snap a pic:(
We eventually made our way back to a good spot to anchor & chill out. Everyone brought good food, including Mel’s saucy & amazing ribs!!! so we chowed down a bit then jumped in the ocean to wash off and float around.
Still getting over being jetlagged, I crashed early. The sun takes a lot of a person!!! But tomorrow’s another day…
This morning Dana and I woke up & went for a hike up Diamond Head. This is where we got to meet Timothy. Timothy is … the Park Ranger???... who knows, but he was the first to greet us (in Japanese, no less). He graciously offered to take our picture, which we graciously accepted NOT knowing he was going to take up 15 minutes of our time. He put us in the “perfect poses” and snapped away.
Then before we could get away, I got suckered into another picture with Timmy himself.
I told Tim I’d e-mail him the picture to be nice and then he took it one step too far and asked me to tag him on Facebook so all his friends could see. Creepy, McCreepster….well, thanks for everything Tim. You will never have a copy of that picture because who the heck knows what you will do with it.
Moving on….
Dana lives 2 seconds away from Diamond Head, it’s actually her view everyday from her apartment.
Diamond Head is an extinct volcanic crater. The trail is about 1.5 miles round trip and climbs up to an elevation of 761 feet.
227 steps & roughly 30 minutes later, we made it to the top!!!
Dana & Carlos are also currently moving, so Dana & I took an hour and a half of our morning to finish moving the rest of the small stuff. We rewarded ourselves for our hard work with some acai bowls and a trip to the beach!
We laid out and enjoyed our fresh fruit, granola & acai sorbet for a few hours. Until I felt like I was on fire and had to head back to their new beach cottage:) The sun in Hawaii is so strong that 11 minutes in the sun here is equivalent to 1 hour back home in Jersey. My burnt feet/back/arms/legs/scalp can attest to that. It’s all worth it though:)
To top off our day--Dana, Carlos & I cruised over to Roy’s for some delicious dinner. We started off with some crawfish ravioli (ah-may-zingggg!!!) and I got some mushroom bisque and butterfish for dinner, also amazing!!! For dessert we topped it off with some white chocolate and green tea mint creme brulee, it was just as awesome as it might sound:)
That’s about it for now. Mahalo for reading!
Much love from Janet, Jack & Chrissy!
