Get Your Kicks On...

The drive through Texas took FOR-EV-ER, especially since our internal clocks were telling us it was 9:00 at night but the never-ending sunshine, due to traveling through a different time zone, made it seem like the day would never end.

When we finally passed the last exit in Texas, 9 hours later, we were greeted with the sweet smell of a slaughter house. Welcome to New Mexico!

After we crashed from our day, we made our way to Albuquerque. We had only driven an hour and were stopped by US Customs Border Patrol. Not gonna lie, we were a little nervous…not sure why. The woman asked us if we were US Citizens. Well of course. Then she asked where we were headed, we said “Albuquerque” she said, then where? “California” She took a look in the back, asked no more questions, and let us on our way. Who’s to say we weren’t smuggling anything illegal in our white cheddar popcorn? (which, we weren’t of course:))

What better way to start the day then to cruise down Route 66. First stop = lunch at the Route 66 Diner. Surrounding us was memorabilia showcasing different landmarks when Route 66 was still in tact. We decided to keep it true 50s style with our chocolate cherry cokes:) We also enjoyed a chicken chimichanga, an open faced chili cheeseburger, and some fried okra.

There’s no other way to end such a meal then to split a Pink Cadillac milkshake (strawberry ice cream & oreos…you can wipe the drool off now)

Let's just say, we had our calorie fill for the day.

Old Town Albuquerque is full of art, music, and history.

Not to mention a rattlesnake museum, which of course we HAD to see!

There’s a different art gallery everywhere you look.

The people here take such pride in their culture and heritage and it definitely shows throughout the streets.

We finished exploring Old Town and made our way to our night of relaxation. Thank you Betty’s Bath & Spa for our amazing, and well deserved after that horrendous drive yesterday, 1 hour deep tissue massages. It was just what the doctor ordered.

our view from the hot tub... :)

We must say, the spa experience was quite unique, where everyone just felt comfortable in their birthday suits. Since we were the only ones headed for the hot tub in our bathing suits, we decided to join the party. Carpe Diem! (boys, use your imagination of whats under those robes because unfortunately we don’t have documentation of that freeing experience)

Feeling completely relaxed, we are writing to you from our hotel room getting ready for tomorrow’s journey. Another 7 hours and we will reach our next location.

Sweet dreams! Look under your bed, there could be one of these under there!!

xxoo

The X Country Girls

Love getting your posts and seeing where your at and that your not just 'driving thru', your actually getting out, experiencing and interacting with each new environment your in. America is such a diverse country. Each State has its own personality. Keep up the fun! And now that your out West, remember its "pop"...not "soda". hahaha ;) PS Happy Birthday Tiffany!
