we love NOLA!

We would like to dedicate this blog to the Pandora application. With our new found appreciation for Elvis….

we listened to Elvis Presley Radio as we left good old Memphis! (a special thanks also goes to Jimmy Buffet, Madonna, 80s throwback, and of course Salt n’ Peppa as well)

360 miles and 6 hours later we arrive at our next destination….

To get into New Orleans we took the North Causeway Bridge over Lake Pontchartrain. The bridge is 23.87 (to be exact) miles long. Lake Pontchartrain is the second largest salt-water lake in the U.S.  Let’s just say we never thought we’d see the end, but it was beautiful scenic route to take.

We arrive at our hotel, check in early, and head out for some good old fashion Creole food.  The hotel recommended a place called Oyster’s and we would like to thank them, because our meal was amazing. We had blackened alligator bites! which were delicious but had quite the kick to them. If you never had alligator before, it pretty much tastes like chicken but the consistency is a little bit tougher. We shared some grilled oysters, fried catfish, jalapeño hush puppies, and baked red fish.

We are officially transforming from Thelma and Louise to Eat, Pray, Love minus the Pray & Love part.

New Orleans a beautiful city and has so much to offer. Unfortunately, we only had one day there but were quite satisfied with the time we spent.  There’s a plethora of art and history to be seen as you walk the streets. With every turn you take, it gets that much better. The architecture, restaurants, and live music are one in a million. The NOLA population is quite unique….

We couldn’t have planned it any better to be in New Orleans at this time.  The Saints are hosting the NFL Kickoff game and the streets were covered football mania, which included some football players :).  In the heart of the French Quarter a stage was set up for the Dave Matthews and Taylor Swift performance. We just so happened to be wondering Devuer street when Dave decided to do his sound check. Woo-hoo free Dave Matthews concert!!!!!

Our night out started @ 6, where we visited the Cats Meow – THE BEST KAREOKE BAR IN THE WORLD!!!!!! The happy hour specials are incredible in this town. 3 for the price of 1 which basically means three beers at one time.

We continued to explore the infamous Bourbon Street. We immediately got suckered into the “no cover” bar and were escorted to a table. We probably should have read this sign first….

We look up to find girls with daddy issues dancing for dollars. It seemed like the men were more interested in why two girls just came into a strip bar, so we barely finished our beers before we headed out. This is not the type of attention we desire.

Let’s just say Bourbon Street is as outrageous as you may have heard. There’s street performers…

Huge Ass Beers!!!....

Live Music…

And a new bar to walk into every 10 seconds.

As you can imagine, after our adventure on Bourbon Street, we were unable to blog last night. We went for some Chicory (French coffee, ½ coffee ½ hot milk) and French doughnuts (Beignets) this morning and gained back our stamina.

The NFL Kickoff coverage was already on its way with Matt Lauer and Al Roker interviewing football players and the owner of the Saints.

This guy…..

was preparing for his segment on the Today Show and luckily had left over sloppy joe & onion ring sandwiches, which really mixed well with the French doughnuts we just ate.

After our fun-filled celebrity ridden New Orleans visit, we are currently blogging on I-10 W on our way to our next location.

Stay tuned!!
